There are literally hundreds of radar apps in the App Store, because checking the radar is an essential task for pilots and non-pilots too. Almost all of these apps use the data of the National Weather Service, so the only difference between these apps is mostly how this data is presented. One of our favorites is MyRadar. It`s free, fast and easy to use with a high quality looping radar. But as we’ve mentioned before, there are also some nice aviation features in it: like an AIRMETs & SIGMETs overlay. One of its additional feature is weather warnings and alerts (and providing push notifications). Unfortunately the app is only available in the USA.

Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck 2.9 is a powerful, complete mobile electronic flight bag (EFB) solution which displays maps and approach charts, but what is unique about this app is that its products are all vector-drawn. This means that each displayed chart is drawn from a database, instead of just pulling up an image of the actual chart (full-color, high-quality, vector-based data with amazing details and zoom capabilities). This saves a lot of space, and the entire worldwide Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck app takes up fewer than 2 GB of storage. Mobile FliteDeck is now a full-featured moving-map app with weather overlays, geo-referenced maps, approach charts and flightplanning features. Jeppesen also offers a VFR version of Mobile FliteDeck, with moving-map functionality, weather and TFR overlays.
